Moss Real Estate Group incorporated in 2003 with a twofold mission: 1) To raise the status-quo level of expertise and integrity in Manhattan real estate, and 2) To integrate solid industry know-how with environmentally and socially conscious practices. Founder Chris Moss hails from a New England real estate family, in which the marketing, showing, and developing of properties was the daily motion of his upbringing. In 1998, Moss decided to hone in on the Manhattan market and joined one of NYC’s largest brokerages. His ability to execute record-breaking deals promptly flagged the attention of New York magazine, which named him “Hotshot Broker” for SoHo and NoHo.

Despite his soaring star, Chris Moss grew disgruntled with what he believed was a major failing of mass-market brokerages: Real estate is the very business of buying and selling “environments,” yet in business protocols there is little regard for our physical and social environment. With every property transaction, reams of paper—and countless trees—are squandered. Furthermore, the vast majority of mainstream brokerages are owned and operated by just three major parent corporations; real estate agents feel that they have little, if any, personal stake in their companies.

Frustrated but also inspired, Moss departed the world of corporate real estate and founded Moss Real Estate Group, a close-knit grassroots company comprising personally selected agents who are as committed to environmental and social well-being as they are knowledgeable and talented. Since the day we opened, over 90% of the paper we have used has been 100% post-consumer recycled. Our offices run on wind power, and we are pioneering new proprietary technologies that revolutionize the way our industry conducts business while saving natural resources. Additionally, Moss donates a substantial portion of our profits to charities and political-action groups each year, and we involve our clients in philanthropy by letting them choose the charity at closing. Wisely put by Deepak Chopra, “A billion dollars in the bank, without the experience of carefreeness and charity, is a state of poverty.”
